Meaning of G5 Governors
G5 means Integrity Group. The G5 governors are an informal group of governors who are aggrieved members of the People’s Democratic Party. This group of Governors sprout up following the end of PDP primaries to indicate their disapproval about how major positions in the party are being occupied only by Northerners.
The group also posited that the PDP presidential ticket for the 2023 presidential election ought to be zoned to the southern region of Nigeria. According to them, given the fact the country has been under the leadership of a Northerner for the last seven years, it is only fair and constitutional for the presidency to shift to the South.
The current G-5 Governors are:
- Nysome Wike
- Samuel Ortom
- Ifeanyi Ugwanyi
- Okezie Ikpeazu
- Seyi Makinde
The G5 governors represent the following states respectively:
Who Did the G5 Governors Endorse?
The group has exited the campaign team of Atiku Abubakar and will not endorse him. They are yet to endorse any of the presidential candidates. The G-5 governors will likely endorse either of the other leading two presidential candidates: Peter Obi of the Labour party or Bola Tinubu of the All People Congress.
